Gavdos Island is a stunning destination off the coast of Crete, boasting a plethora of untouched, wild landscapes and beautiful beaches. Karave is the primary harbor of Gavdos and is situated on the eastern shore of the isle. Here, visitors can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the bay, which leads south to the Korfos beach, passing Agii Pateres. While not organized, the beach is a great place to relax and swim while waiting for the ferry. Nearby, there is a cafe, tavern, and a few rooms to let. There is also a bus service that runs to the settlements and beaches of the island. For those interested in archaeology, pottery from the late Neolithic period was discovered south of Karave, though the tomb it belonged to has since been destroyed.
