Gialiskari, a cluster of secluded beaches situated 4km east of Paleochora and 80km south of Chania city, is renowned for its beauty and is one of the best attractions of West Crete. Spanning 18km in length, the beaches feature small pebbles, deep cool waters, umbrellas and a nearby sandy beach called Ammoudia at the easternmost part of the coastline. These beaches are also nudism friendly and can be accessed either by car or by walking down the Anidri Gorge or 4km from Paleochora. During the 70s, hippies from Paleochora would often visit Gialiskari to swim, play music and relax on the beach, often bringing with them supplies of food and water. Today, Gialiskari beach still remains a popular destination for those looking to explore the stunning coastline of Crete.
