Kedrodasos, a stunning beach located 76km southwest of Chania and 1km east of Elafonissi lagoon, is home to an extensive 11-hectare grove of twisted juniper trees (Juniperus oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa and Juniperus phoenicea). It is a paradise for swimming and naturists, boasting white sand and smooth, flat rocks here and there. The beach is secluded, making it the perfect spot for those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the peak season. The European path E4 runs through the beach, and visitors should be mindful to keep it clean and tidy.
The area also provides excellent opportunities for wind- and kitesurfing, as the wind is usually strong and the sea is calm. For those seeking complete seclusion, Agios Ioannis beaches, 1-2km east of Kedrodasos, are an ideal choice. These beaches, which can only be accessed by walking, feature less trees and provide natural shade. The first beach is Pahia Ammoutsa (Thick Sand), followed by Kambi Lakkos, located at the exit of a small stream, and Kokkino Ammoutsaki (Red Sand), situated below the chapel of Saint John. It is possible to access the chapel by car from Paleohora, using a dirt track.
