Agia Roumeli is a picturesque, secluded village 56km south of Chania city, situated along a wide bay at the exit of the Samaria Gorge. Every day, thousands of visitors descending the gorge reach this place and typically take a dip in the central beach, close to the seaside taverns. However, there are other, more tranquil beaches nearby for those seeking a more serene experience.
On the east side of the settlement is a particularly tranquil beach, located beyond the river of the Samaria Gorge and beneath the ruins of ancient Tarra. In this area, visitors can explore the beautiful rocky formations and cavities at Zeromouri, as well as the small pebbly beaches in front. These beaches are usually empty, and the shoreline continues eastward to the beach of Selouda or Agios Pavlos, where the terrain becomes rocky and is suitable for snorkeling and nudism.
