Located just 20 kilometers northwest of Heraklion, Madé is a small coastal village nestled at the northernmost edge of the Gulf of Heraklion. To access this secluded spot, take the highway to Chania and exit at Ligaria/Mades, then follow the signs for Madé.
Famous for its pebbly beach, Madé is a great spot for fishing, snorkeling, and relaxation. Sunbeds, umbrellas, and other beach amenities are provided by the nearby hotel, and additional services like mini markets, beach bars, and taverns are close by.
The two small islets opposite the west end of the beach are a special trademark of Madé and make it the perfect place to explore the underwater world. The area’s name is taken from the Greek verb “mado,” meaning “break easily,” and refers to the stones that are very unstable and easily crack. Although the beach has a northern orientation, making it vulnerable to strong winds, it is still an ideal spot for a peaceful and serene retreat.
