Dyskos, a small settlement that is known also as Dytikos and is situated 75km southwest of Heraklion, is located just 1-2km west of the village of Lendas. It is separated from Lendas by the famous Cape Lion – a mythical lion said to have been petrified while carrying the chariot of the goddess Rhea. At the start of Dyskos beach, located to the west of the cape, lies a long beach with fine pebbles that extends westwards to Tsigounas village. To reach it, one can take the paved road from Lendas to Gerokambos, around 1km after Lendas. Alternatively, Dyskos can be accessed by taking the short path that surrounds the Lion Cape. The beach is slightly organized at the east part which is located in front of the village, with a few taverns and rooms. As one moves to the west, the beach becomes more secluded. The west part near Gerokambos is particularly popular among nudists and was once a favorite spot for hippies. Along the beach, there are also several tamarisk trees which provide shade. Dyskos is famous for its stunning sunsets, with the sun setting behind the wild mountains of Asterousia.
