Nestled in the wild and majestic landscape of Asterousia Range, 73km south of Heraklion city, lies the pebbly beach of Leprias or Lepries. This unique beach can be reached by following the trail to Agios Ioannis from Tripiti beach. Its name is derived from the Greek word for ‘leper’, as the steep dirt slope in front of the beach crumbles and collapses like the leper’s skin. To navigate down to the beach safely, it’s best to descend from the west end of the bay. Additionally, the east part of the beach features some spectacular caves offering shade all day long. Furthermore, between Leprias and Tripiti, one can encounter further pleasant beaches of Kalokambos, with rocky bottom, favored by local fishermen.
