Every day, thousands of travellers arrive by boat from Ierapetra to the island of Chrissi. Once there, many of them visit the stunning Belegrina or Golden Beach. The beach is renowned for its turquoise waters and white sand with pretty pink hues from broken shells scattered around. Moreover, the area is framed by majestic juniper trees, whose deep roots hold the sand in place.
The journey to Chrissi Island is a 50-minute ferry ride from Ierapetra. Visitors are reminded that the juniper wood is a protected area and no one is allowed to go in. Additionally, they must not take any shells, sand, or anything else from the island. For those who have never been to the beach before, it is important to note that the shore is initially rocky before transitioning to sand.
