Located 66km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 29km east of Ierapetra, Ammoudi is a stunning beach with fine golden sand that is not easily seen from the road. To find the beach, one must stop at the tavern called Dragon’s Cave and walk the small path towards the sea (3′). The area is ideal for families, as it is secluded and not suitable for naturism. There are two other coves to the west which are even more secluded. The shoreline is surrounded by high cliffs and smooth white rocks of limestone and the seabed is sandy. To access Ammoudi, one can take the bus that connects Ierapetra to Goudouras, however, it is important to know the exact routes beforehand as the buses are not frequent. Additionally, one can find healthful clay in the cliffs and use it to create a natural spa-like experience.
