Atherina Beach is an idyllic secret cove situated 70 km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 34 km east of Ierapetra, close to the coastal village of Goudouras. To access the beach by land, one must walk along the narrow and deep dry riverbed located 300 meters past the church of Agii Saranda in Kalami. The beach is comprised of pebbles and has crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming. Natural salt pans can be found in the surrounding sea area, and smaller, more remote beaches are located nearby. Shadow can be found in abundance on the side of the conglomerate walls of the small canyon. To reach the shore, it is easier to approach from the sea. However, a bad dirt road ends nearby the eastern edge of the beach.
