Diaskari beach is situated 27km east of the town of Ierapetra and 62km southeast of Agios Nikolaos, just a few kilometers away from Makrigialos. It is an extensive beach of light-colored coarse sand and clear, turquoise waters. Visitors should take caution while entering the sea due to the abundance of slippery rocks at some points. There is a small settlement of tamarisk trees, a tavern and a few umbrellas on the western part, which marks the start of the road from Makrigialos. If you are seeking a more secluded area, you can walk eastwards and find a spot for yourself. Right next to Diaskari lies the long beach of Lagada, which is even more remote. Lastly, in 1972, a late Minoan settlement with a variety of important buildings was discovered on the hill north of Diaskari. This beach takes its name from the Dioscuri sanctuary, which was built on the hill that divides it from Lagada beach.
