Psili Ammos, which translates to “fine sand” in Greek, is located near the famous Vai Palm Beach, 95 kilometers east of Agios Nikolaos and 25 kilometers east of Sitia. Accessible through a short footpath that originates in Vai and passes through the hill on the east end of Vai, the beach is a 5-minute walk away and is certainly worth the trip. This small beach boasts beautiful, fine sand and crystal-clear waters, and is usually deserted, making it perfect for those seeking seclusion and naturism.
The area around Psili Ammos is a protected region due to the rare Vai palm forest, and therefore there are not many tourist facilities nearby (taverns, hotels, and rooms). However, Vai canteen is within walking distance and is ideal for a snack or meal while at the beach. The beach is also the perfect starting point for a 2.5 hour journey along the footpath heading south, where you will come across several tiny coves with tiny, isolated beaches. The first beach you arrive at is characterized by stunning rock formations.
