Located 58km south of Rethymnon city, the peaceful coastal village of Agios Pavlos (St. Paul) is nestled in a secluded bay, making it an ideal spot for a tranquil family holiday. Here, visitors will find a stunning beach with blue-green waters, a rocky seabed, and basic services such as umbrellas, sunbeds, and pedal boats. Additionally, the small church of Saint Paul, which is believed to be the site of a journey made by the saint to Rome, can be found perched above the beach.
Though many prefer Agios Pavlos for its accommodation and food, the nearby Akoumiani Gialia or Melissa beach is often the preferred spot for swimming. This beach, which is considered one of the best in Rethymno prefecture, is located behind the western edge of Agios Pavlos bay and features giant sandhills. To get there, one can take a path that begins at Agios Pavlos. The Apoplystra rocks between the village and the sandhills are also of great geological and aesthetic interest and have been proposed to become a Natural Monument of Greece.
