Damnoni, a popular tourist resort located 35km south of Rethymnon and 5km east of Plakias, boasts a long bay of beautiful turquoise waters and coarse whitish sand. This beach offers visitors a variety of services, including umbrellas, snack bars, showers, changing rooms, water sports, a scuba diving centre, hotels, restaurants, and even a horse riding centre. The west end of the beach is the most organized, and features a small river that is usually full of water. The east end of the beach is much quieter, and is connected to the adjacent Ammoudakii beach by a short dirt road. Additionally, there are several small coves with sand and rocks just beyond the west end of the beach, offering visitors the opportunity to find an isolated spot to relax. These coves are located near the area’s small harbor.
