Pefkias is a secluded and arid region located in southern Crete, between the villages of Rodakino and Plakias, 43km from Rethymno. This rugged landscape is home to a few small beaches that can only be accessed by boat or via a dirt track connecting Souda beach to Korakas beach. From east to west, these beaches are Kokkinos Volakas, Stavri, Filadelfi, Parahoristra, Agios Antonios, Hohlakas and Klimata.
Kokkinos Volakas is the main beach of Pefkias, situated near the bay of Souda. It is named after the reddish rock at its eastern end and is characterized by pebbly sand and many rocks, making it perfect for fishing and snorkeling. Additionally, it has no natural shade and is a popular spot for nudism as it is rarely visited.
East of Kokkinos Volakas lies the smaller beach of Stavri, which is equally isolated and deserted. This beach can also be accessed by the same dirt road that links Souda and Rodakino.
