Episkopi beach is situated 45km east of Chania and 14km west of Rethymnon. It is a coastal area, famous for its connection to one of Greece’s wealthiest business families, the Vardinoyannis. The beach is 3.5km long, with a mix of sand, shallow waters and wavy conditions, making it ideal for swimming and other watersports. It is well-equipped with lifeguards, showers, changing rooms, umbrellas, snack bars and more, although there is still the option of finding a quiet spot in the easternmost part. Access is made easy through the main road that runs alongside, with frequent bus services to and from Chania and Rethymnon. In the vicinity, there is the village of Episkopi, Argiroupolis with its springs and Lake Kournas. The area was once the Diocese of the area in the Byzantine Period, though the old Episcopal church of St. Nicholas is sadly destroyed.
