Ammoudara is a stunning beach located just 1km west of Heraklion’s center. It stretches from the mouth of the Giofyros River to the mouth of the Almyros River, extending 7km in total. It is renowned for its long sandy beach and for attracting thousands of tourists every year. Visitors can find the perfect spot for them, whether it’s a crowded beach with umbrellas, sunbeds, beach bars and showers or a more secluded area near the wetland, dunes of Xeropotamos and the Industrial Area of Ellinoperamata. Windsurfers in particular appreciate Ammoudara for its intense winds all year round. Additionally, the area offers a great array of scenery such as the spring of Almyros River, the Almiros Gorge, and the Stroumboulas mountain.
