Nestled in the sheltered bay of Keratokambos, 72km southeast of Heraklion, lies the picturesque beach of Kastri. Adjacent to the church of Saint Myronas, lies the beach’s main attraction: the longer beach of Skouros. This gorgeous beach, characterized by its sand and pebbles, is not overcrowded and provides plenty of shade under the line of tamarisk trees that line the shore. Moreover, its striking rock formations, both in and out of the sea, break up the monotony of the beach. In the west, one can find a large, dark colored rock called Skouros, from which the beach gets its name. This beach is a great choice for free camping and spending time away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist spots. Following the rock of Skouros towards the east, one can find a series of remote beaches, starting at Xerokambi and ending at the east end of the rock of Listis. These beaches are accessible via dirt roads that lead to nearby greenhouses.
