Nestled in the stunning Cretan landscape, Kokkina Grema (Red Cliffs) is a remote beach located 55km west of Chania, 28km southwest of Kissamos, and 3km west of the village of Platanos. Boasting reddish grounds at its northern end, the beach invites those looking for a secluded camping experience, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Surrounded by a small gorge that begins in Platanos village, Kokkina Grema features pebble-filled grounds and offers no facilities or shade, so visitors should come prepared with an umbrella or other protection from the sun. Reaching the beach can be challenging, as the dirt track leading there from Platanos is often in disrepair. However, those who make the journey are rewarded with the sight of the picturesque chapel of Panagia on the beach.
