Nestled 79km south of Chania in Paleochora, Pahia Ammos (or Coarse Sand) Beach is the main beach of the area, located on the west side. It is a large beach, spanning 500 meters, and though it appears to be empty, it is in close proximity to all necessary tourist amenities. The sand is soft and the water shallow, making it perfect for families with small children, though caution must be taken when westerly or southerly winds are present. Services such as umbrellas, bars, snack bars, water sports equipment, showers and a lifeguard tower are available, and the western part of the beach is secluded, popular among nudists. Pahia Ammos is ideal for those looking for a peaceful beach with plenty of services.
