Beginning from Lenika and heading towards Agios Nikolaos, Elounda’s first beaches to be encountered are those located in front of the renowned hotels in Pigaidakia. Each hotel that holds its international status has its own port, where yachts may moor. Adjacent to the docks are small sandy beaches providing a variety of opulent and luxuriant amenities. Access to most of the beaches is restricted, though there is no private beach ownership in Greece. The Greek law, however, has a minor clause that states that “if a license has been issued for a private port, then the beach adjoining it is private”, and hotels have taken advantage of this.
